Goofy Foot was established in Lahaina, Maui in April, 1994 by the Owner/Instructor Tim Sherer to perpetuate his relationship with Mother Ocean and to teach the ancient Hawaiian sport of surfing. We are dedicated to providing professional surfing lessons to all levels of aspiring students in the spirit of fun and learning. We are committed to facilitating the highest level of experience for our guests with a focus on teaching safety, ocean awareness and surfing fundamentals. Students are guaranteed to standup and ride at least one wave, and even more are given a smart approach to learning to surf that is based on technique and fundamentals that they can use to accelerate learning on their own.

Great intro to surfing

I had a great experience with my beginner lesson. As luck would have it there were only two of us in this class. Mario, our instructor took us down to the beach and went over the basics of what we needed to know. He explained everything and answered any questions. We then paddled out to the staging area. The two of us took turns surfing, non stop for the remainder of the class. Mario was patient and worked hard to ensure our success. He provided feedback and encouragement. The waves were steady but not big, so it made for a great beginner experience. I’d go it again.

We had the most perfect day surfing. Austin met us at our skill level, took the time to set us up individually on our land lesson and then had us stand up and catch multiple (!!) waves. Austin was very patient and amazing at pointing out just the right detail we needed. We had a blast! Lahaina and the water conditions were perfect for beginners, and the staff at Goofy Foot were so welcoming!

We did a 1pm lesson with Austin and had an awesome time. We got lucky being the only two in our group so we got to ride a bunch of waves. It was quite the workout. Marc was the photographer and the photos are awesome. I recommend getting the photographer with your lesson (it was an extra $70 ish for two people to get the photos- we got over 100 pics). Overall, fantastic experience!

The instructors (I had Keith) were all super chill, but gave really solid instructions and information. I got to see a huge sea turtle while I was out there. I got a really good overview into what surfing is all about.

Amazing lesson back in October with Keith.

Our daughters (17 & 22) said it was the highlight of the vacation! The instruction was great and location perfect. They feel confident enough to rent boards and practice on their own after 1 lesson. They loved the instructor and had a great time.

I can't recommend Goofy Foot Surf School enough! Our group of kids, ages 9, 11, and 15 took a surf class with Austin. He did an amazing job teaching them how to surf, patiently took each one out until they were able to get up and surf a wave on their own, and made the day a fun and exciting experience. We will be back for another lesson next year!
